Description
The Syngonium podophyllum ‘Aurea yellow variegated’ (often called the Arrowhead Plant) is a stunning, fast-growing tropical aroid. It is celebrated for its deep green, arrow-shaped foliage that develops vibrant, striking splashes and marbling of golden, lemon-yellow, and lime-green variegation.
Key Care Requirements
To keep your ‘Aurea’ healthy and maximize its bright yellow color, follow these guidelines:
- Light: Provide bright, indirect light. Variegated plants need ample light to fuel photosynthesis, but avoid harsh, direct sun, which can scorch the delicate leaves.
- Watering: Allow the top 1 to 2 inches of soil to dry out completely between waterings. These plants are susceptible to root rot, so it is best to err on the side of under watering.
- Soil: Use a chunky, well-draining aroid mix containing ingredients like peat or coir, orchid bark, and perlite.
- Support: These are natural climbers. Providing a moss or coir pole encourages the leaves to grow larger and develop more pronounced lobes as the plant matures.
- Maintenance: If the plant pushes out leaves that are entirely green or entirely yellow, prune them back to the last variegated leaf. This encourages the plant to maintain a healthy balance of chlorophyll and variegation.
